Who was King Ashoka?
Ashoka was an important ruler of ancient India. He was a part of the Maurya family, who were the first ever leaders that united different kingdoms of India.
Ashoka expanded the Mauryan Empire by having various wars, but soon rejected violence and ruled in a more peacefully. He followed the Buddhist ways of nonviolence and such. He also spread Buddhism beyond India and sent his son, Mahinda to Ceylon, who changed that king's way to Buddhism as well.
